This first thematic edition of the Course is dedicated to one of the most important topics in today´s situations of forced displacement: the protection of persons in need of protection who find it in urban settings. By highlighting their rights and responsibilities enshrined in international legal instruments, the Course identifies challenges faced by uprooted persons in urban contexts. In doing so, the training focuses on the role cities have in building safe, resilient and inclusive societies, for persons in need of protection and host communities. The Course explores the opportunities for relevant stakeholders primarily at the municipal and local level to support development of effective policymaking and planning for cities with displaced populations.
