The course will run over six weeks and combine doctrinal and legal presentations with practical exercises applying those principles. Four modules looking at the mission analysis, development of planning and then operational and consequence management.

Training in IHL for the military tends to focus on issues at the tactical level and individual compliance with the law. At the operational and strategic levels, the law has a significant impact on the planning and conduct of the full spectrum of military operations. This course will examine this in the context of the planning and execution at the operational level using operational planning and management doctrine to explore the themes. It will consider broader international law considerations which impact on operations as well as IHL.
